How do I use the new data services in the Reverb search and order tool?



In July 2013, NSIDC and NASA's Reverb|ECHO introduced new functionality in the Reverb search and order tool for use with AMSR-E and MODIS data. These data can now be reformatted from HDF-EOS to GeoTIFF, reprojected, and subsetted spatially or by parameter.  In this article, we will address how to access data services in Reverb. Please note that this option is best for users who want to perform one or more service options on their data. If you want to download your data in it's native format and projection with no subsetting, please use the Order Data option at the shopping cart.


Accessing the data services:

 After searching for AMSR-E or MODIS data in Step 1 of the Reverb process, you will receive a list of data sets that match your search. Data sets that have a gear icon in the right column indicate that data transformation services are available. 



2. Once you have selected the data sets you want, click on the "Search for Granules" button to move to the Results page. On the results page, you can select data granules to add to your shopping cart by clicking on the shopping cart icon in the right column.  There is a 200 granule limit for the data services in order to provide fast, efficient delivery of the data.


3. When you reach the shopping cart, granules that are eligible to utilize the data services will have “NSIDC_OPS EOSDIS Service Implementation (ESI)” in the Services Available column (1).

Select the Perform Service button (2) to set the data service options. 



4. On the Service Options page, select the Set button to begin configuring the services for each. 



5. A window will appear with fields available to specify the desired format, projection, and subset. 

If you want the metadata and production history files to be delivered with the data, be sure to check the box next to "Include Metadata and Production History". 

The selections made in the Set Services window for one granule will automatically apply to all similar granules in your shopping cart. If you want to set the options for each individual granule, uncheck the box next to “Use these values for all applicable items” at the bottom of the set options box. Click on the Save button to finish setting the service options. Any granules for which the selected service options didn't apply will still show a set button. All granules must have the service options set before proceeding.



6. Once you are done setting the service options for your granules, click on the proceed button and review your order on the next page. If you want to keep the granules in your shopping cart after processing is complete, check the box next to "Do not remove items in the service request from the shopping cart" before proceeding.



7. Once you have submitted your request, the Request Receipt page will give you a real-time status of your order. Links to the data will appear on this page when processing is complete.

You do not have to wait for processing to complete to leave this page. You will receive emails at the address you entered when setting your service options letting you know your data are ready. You can also take note of the Request ID (1) and enter it on the Service Request Status (2) page to get a status update at any time. 



8. The processed data are delivered through HTTP. You have the option to download each data file individually, or you can download a zip file containing all of the data in your order. Data transfer tools like wget or cURL can also access these data, and instructions are provided toward the end of your order page.
